Responsibilities:
Budget:
• Offer assistance in reviewing, analysing, and preparing the long-term plan and any necessary adjustments.
• Create supporting documentation (a narrative report and accompanying tables) regarding the completion of budget proposals and cost estimates, taking into account the needs of both staff and non-staff.
• Help managers and the administrative officer elaborate on the resources needed to prepare the budget.
• Conduct research and assist the Administrative Officer with the budget evaluations of the Convention's and related agreements' pertinent governing bodies.
• Keeps an eye on spending, compares it to the approved budget, and makes any required adjustments.
• Examine requests for services and products to make that the right things have been paid for and that there are enough cash available.
• Analyse discrepancies among approved budgets and actual spending to help prepare budgetary performance submissions and finalise budget performance reports.
Payments:
• Examine the instructions for incoming payments.
• Get payments ready for the cashier's final distribution.
• Verify the deposits of all incoming monies for both assessed and voluntary contributions.
• Inform payees of payment status.
• Respond to enquiries from employees, the administrative officer, business associates, and contributors about matters pertaining to deposits and payments.
• Write or prepare letters to answer questions about pertinent budgetary and financial issues.
• Keep files current and maintained.
• Help with data gathering and analysis, prepare reports and data presentations for information sharing, answer questions, manage knowledge, plan, and make decisions.
• Help with updating informational materials, like brochures or websites, and creating visualisations.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification:
Additional education in finance, administration, or a similar discipline is necessary.
Work Experience:
It is necessary to have at least seven years of increasing responsibility in the fields of finance, budgeting, accounting, administrative services, or a similar field. Candidates with a first-level university degree are exempt from the mandatory years of advancing work experience requirement, which is lowered to five years. It is necessary to have prior budgetary or financial experience with the United Nations or other international organisations. It is necessary to have prior experience with an ERP system (enterprise resource planning) like SAP or a comparable one. It is preferred if you have experience with financial reports and budgeting. It is preferred if you have experience finding and fixing operational issues and disparities in financial data. It is preferable to have at least one year of expertise in statistical computing or a similar field.
Languages:
The United Nations Administration uses English and French as its working languages. Proficiency in English is necessary for the advertised position. It is preferable to know another official language of the United Nations. NOTE: "Knowledge of" equates to an overall score of "confident" in each of the four areas, while fluency equates to a score of "fluent" in every one of them (read, write, speak, and understand).
Assessment:

Special Notice:
For a maximum of six months, this role is intermittently available. The selection process will be carried out as an interim position if the chosen applicant is a member of the UN Secretariat staff. Although the chosen candidate may have the chance to obtain new work experience through this temporary assignment, the position's selection is only temporary and has no impact on its future tenure. Applicants domiciled at their place of duty may be the only ones eligible for this temporary employment, depending on the position's financing source. Applicants must be authorised to perform duties for the United Nations in the place of duty where the employment is located in order to be considered for General Service and similar roles.
